Svetlana S. Bodrunova is habilitated Doctor of Political Science and Professor at School of Journalism and Mass Communications, St.Petersburg State University (SPbU), Russia. She has led six research projects, published four (co-)authored/edited volumes and 180+ chapters and papers in Russian and English (15 Q1), and edited special issues in Digital Journalism, Social Media + Society, Media and Communication, and Future Internet. She is the only recipient of all the three prizes for Russian-speaking media scholars (NAMMI – three times, Neva Award for theory, and Russian Communication Association for the best book in political science). In 2013-2021, Svetlana founded and co-chaired the international conference ‘Comparative media studies in today’s world’ (CMSTW). In 2014-2018, she was co-director of ‘Global Communication and International Journalism’ double-degree Master Program with Freie Universitaet Berlin. Since 2020, she has led the SPbU Center for International Media Research. The Center’s research focuses upon patterns of online deliberation, methods of automated analysis of social media data, and comparative analysis of journalistic professionalism in technology-led media systems. She is also involved with projects by UNESCO, Global Solutions Initiative, URBAN20, ICA (Regional Hub Russia), and Global Risk Journalism Hub (regional co-lead). In 2024, she was elected a member of IAMCR International Council.
