Transparency & Accountability

The International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE), a charitable foundation registered in the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland, is fully committed to maintaining independence, neutrality, and transparency while pursuing its mission.

We follow a strict framework of rules and regulations to ensure responsible stewardship of our resources. To demonstrate this commitment, we regularly share reports, audits, and updates on our activities, funding, and administration.

Administration

Board of Trustees

The IPIE’s Foundation Board of Trustees serves as the governing body. Trustees are appointed for three-year terms and act as stewards of the organization’s mission and provide oversight of ethical standards and financial stability.

Secretariat

In addition to the Board, the IPIE is guided by a dedicated team of leaders and staff. Meetings of the Executive Committee—comprised of IPIE Committee and Panel Chairs— are held monthly, ensuring alignment on organizational priorities and activities.

Funding Transparency

Purpose of Funding

External funding enables the IPIE to build the long-term capacity needed to advance its mission and sustain its independence.

Budget Planning and Oversight

Budgets are planned five years in advance, drafted by the Secretariat and approved by the Board of Trustees. All incoming revenue complies with the IPIE Funding Policy and Swiss charity law. Annually, the IPIE undergoes an independent external audit.

Registered Charity Status

As a registered Swiss charity, the IPIE can accept general gifts from funders in support of our mission, with no additional tax burden. The IPIE, with domicile in Zurich, Switzerland, is tax exempt due to pursuing charitable purposes according to the Cantonal Income Tax Law of the Canton of Zurich (§ 61 lit. G StG) and Swiss federal law on the Direct Federal Tax (Art. 56 lit. g DBG). Our Unique Identification Number for tax purposes is CHE 225 455 168.
