Siân Brooke is an Assistant Professor and MacGillavry Fellow at the University of Amsterdam’s Informatics Institute, based in the Digital Interactions Lab. Her research sits at the intersection of human–computer interaction, data science, and social theory, examining how technologies reproduce inequality and how to design tools that expand access and agency. She leads the NWO Veni project Human-Centered Code, which builds adaptive, AI-supported programming environments and evaluation protocols to make computing education more accessible to neurodiverse learners. Methodologically, her work combines participatory design, large-scale computational analysis, and controlled lab and classroom studies, with a focus on open, reproducible research. Previously she held posts at the London School of Economics and the Oxford Internet Institute, where she completed a DPhil as a Clarendon Scholar. Her publications span CHI and leading journals, and she contributes to the community as an associate editor for Information, Communication and Society, alongside collaborations with public and industry partners. Current projects produce open-source software, datasets, and design guidelines that reduce bias in state-of-the-art technologies and inform inclusive policy and practice. At UvA she integrates research with teaching through project-based courses, supervision, and the Digital Interactions Lab, training students to build and evaluate responsible AI systems.
