Oumar Kane is a full professor in the Département de communication sociale et publique at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Montreal, Canada. He has worked intensively for the past ten years on issues related to environmental communication and decolonial approaches. In 2011, he was a founding member of the International Environmental Communication Association (IECA), the largest association of researchers and practitioners in the field. Professor Kane is a researcher and member of several research groups. He is a member of the steering committee of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Communication, Information, and Society (CRICIS) and the Research Group on International and Intercultural Communication (GERACII). Oumar Kane regularly collaborates with several African, European, and Latin American universities. His research interests include the climate crisis, the economic and societal dimensions of the digital revolution, and different forms of coloniality.
