Dr Meli Ncube is a postdoctoral fellow at Stellenbosch University's Department of Journalism, where he specializes in the study of disinformation, its impact on journalism, and media trust. Holding a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Cape Town (UCT), Dr Ncube has been deeply involved in researching the influence of social media on democracy in Africa, with a particular emphasis on Zimbabwe, since 2014. His research seeks to uncover how investigative journalism can effectively counter disinformation, especially within African contexts. Dr Ncube's work is driven by a commitment to understanding the complex dynamics between media and democracy and to contributing to the development of robust journalistic practices that enhance the integrity of information in the public sphere. His research interests include disinformation and journalism, investigative journalism as a tool to counter disinformation, and the broader implications of social media on democracy in Africa. Through his research, Dr Ncube aims to contribute to the scholarly discourse on media, democracy, and the challenges posed by information disorders in the digital age.
