Marisol Flores Garrido has been a full-time professor at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México since 2015. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics from Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, a Master's degree in Scientific Computing from the University of British Columbia, Canada, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica in Puebla, Mexico. Dr. Flores Garrido has been a fellow at prestigious institutions including UNAM, Conacyt, Universidad de Chile, and San Diego State University. In 2023, she was awarded the Women in AI North America prize for her research activities. She is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNII). Her research focuses on pattern recognition, machine learning, and network analysis. She is particularly interested in the intersection between artificial intelligence and humanities, exploring the social and political dimensions of algorithms. Her pedagogical work emphasizes developing critical thinking skills among AI and data science students through situated learning approaches that combine technical programming exercises with systematic critical reflection. She has been invited by various government institutes to provide expert consultations and lectures on AI-related topics, contributing to public policy discussions on artificial intelligence implementation and ethics.
