Kanchan K. Malik is a professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Hyderabad, where she also served as head. She is a Faculty Fellow with the UNESCO chair on Community Media and Editor of the e-newsletter CR News. A media academic, a participatory research expert, and a community radio enthusiast, she has worked on national and international research projects and published scholarly papers on community media interventions at the grassroots and women in community communications. With a dual master�s in economics and mass communication, she was a journalist with The Economic Times before settling for an academic career. Her PhD focused on community radio and its role, especially in the global South. She works with PhD scholars on Social Change Media, Environmental Communication, Misinformation, and Corporate Social Responsibility. She was awarded the 2022-2023 Fulbright Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowship to visit the University of Texas at Austin. She has co-authored (with Prof. Vinod Pavarala) the much-cited book Other Voices: The Struggle for Community Radio in India (Sage: 2007). Her co-edited book is Community Radio in South Asia: Reclaiming the Airwaves (Routledge: 2020). She has co-published the manual Strengthening Gender-Sensitive Practices and Programming in Community Radio (UNESCO: 2021).
