Débora Salles is the Head of Research at NetLab, the Laboratory for Internet and Social Network Studies of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has research experience in the areas of Communication and Information with an emphasis on Internet and Social Networks Studies. Her work focuses on disinformation, computational propaganda and political radicalization in digital media, gaining recognition in various media outlets. She has presented her research at numerous conferences and events and has published widely in prestigious international academic journals. She is also a researcher member of the European VOX-Pol Network of Excellence, focused on investigating the prevalence, contours, functions and impacts of violent online political extremism. She holds a PhD in Information Science from the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology, where her dissertation was nominated for the National Research Council (CAPES) Best Thesis Award. She also earned a Master's degree in Communication and Culture from UFRJ.
