Dr. Daniel Pimentel is an Assistant Professor of Science Education at the University of Alabama. He is also a research affiliate with the Alabama Science Communication Initiative and the Public Knowledge Project. His research focuses on K-12 teaching and learning related to science media literacy, evaluating online sources of scientific information, socioscientific decision-making, and the nature of science. His interdisciplinary work draws from a range of fields include science education, learning sciences, science communication, and misinformation studies. He completed his PhD in Science Education and Learning Sciences & Technology Design (LSTD) at Stanford University, where he also earned a Graduate Certificate in Science, Technology, & Society (STS) with a concentration in Data & Society. He received a B.S. in Biology and an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from Boston College. He also holds an Advanced Certificate in Special Education from the Relay Graduate School of Education. He previously taught middle school science and high school chemistry in Boston, MA and Brooklyn, NY.
