INSTITUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL AND COMPARATIVE LAW IN AFRICA, UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA

Professor Fombad is the Director of the Institute for International and Comparative Law, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria. In the course of a career that has spanned over 30 years he has more than 180 accredited outputs. Besides his own publications, Professor Fombad is the coordinator and editor-in-chief of the Pretoria University Law Press (PULP) and chairs its management committee. PULP publishes 5 accredited law journals and has published over 260 books on African law. He has received several prizes for his research, such as research excellence award in the University of Botswana (for 2004, 2005 and 2007), and University of Pretoria Chancellor�s Award for Research 2021. He has had a B 1 rating from the South African National Research Foundation since 2016. He is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa since 2016, Associate member of the International Academy of Comparative Law and a Fellow of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS). Professor Fombad is a member of the international advisory board of more than a dozen international journals as well as a member of several professional associations. Professor Fombad has submitted amicus curiae briefs in cases before courts in Africa and Canada. He is globally recognised as the expert on comparative African constitutional law.
