Geneva Graduate Institute

Andreas Hirblinger is an Senior Researcher at the Geneva Graduate Institute's Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP). In 2024, he is a visiting fellow at the European University Institute�s (EUI), School of Transnationational studies. He was also an associated senior researcher at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) from 2021 to 2024. Andreas� research explores the role of digital technologies in contemporary conflict prevention, peace mediation and peacebuilding. He is especially interested in how digitalisation shapes understandings of conflict and approaches to conflict resolution, in the emergence of �hybrid� peace intelligence, the socio-technical relations that determine peacebuilding and the impact of the political context on digital peacebuilding efforts. When studying the information environment, Andreas explores how social media could be employed, adapted and regulated to foster peaceful relations between invidiuals, groups and states. Andreas� research has been funded by �Ambizione� and �SPARK� research grants of the Swiss National Science Foundation, the Volkswagen Foundation and the United States Institute of Peace. He has also worked as an advisor, coach and consultant to several international organizations and civil society, including the United Nations Mediation Support Unit, the European Union External Action Service, MediatEUr, the CMI-Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, the Gesellschaft f�r Internationale Zusammnarbeit (GIZ), the Berghof Foundation, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform and the Swiss PeaceTech Alliance. Andreas holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
