The Open University of Israel

Anat Ben-David is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology, Political Science, and Communication at the Open University of Israel. She co-founded the university�s Open Media and Information Lab (OMILab). Her research interests include the history and geopolitics of the Web, the political dimensions of social media, and the use of computational methods for critical Internet research. Her current projects include the study of computer vision algorithms in relation to the climate crisis (2022�2025) and (abusive) Holocaust memory on social media (2020�2023, 2024�2027). She is also investigating the role of drones in social protests and is involved in developing an index to monitor Israel�s media ecology and democratic decline. Ben-David is co-editing the forthcoming Routledge Companion to Transnational Web Archive Studies with Susan Aasman and Niels Br�gger.At the Open University, she serves as Head of Communication Studies and the President's Advisor on Gender Equity. She also heads the Student�s Court of Appeal and is a member of the university�s ethics board.Beyond academia, Ben-David is committed to promoting digital rights in Israel. She co-founded the NGO Privacy Israel and serves on the board of The Seventh Eye, an independent investigative journalism magazine.
