"Amanda is an early career PhD researcher at Bournemouth University in Bournemouth, United Kingdom. Currently, she is undertaking an interdisciplinary PhD between Psychology and Journalism & Media on topics of fake news, culture, and decision-making. As a U.S. citizen residing in the U.K., she is interested in highlighting cultural nuances around information discernment of topics like news within these two populations. This includes using novel methodologies like online eye-tracking to better understand how information is disseminated differently. She has a special interest investigating research for better decision-making within cybersecurity spheres in organisations as part of wider sociotechnical systems. This is done by exploring culture as a tool to foster better, and safer, decision-making around news and information. This approach focuses on strengthening humans and their ability to contribute to safer online environments in an increasingly technological world. Overall, Amanda believes that empowering individuals to think critically is needed to mitigate harmful effects of manipulative information and fake news modelled after a wide range of topics from politics, health, and the environment. One part of the solution may lie in understanding how culture can be used to strengthen existing mitigation strategies. "
