Alice Mattoni is Associate Professor at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, University of Bologna. She is currently the Scientific Coordinator of RESPOND (2024–2029, RIA HE) and was the Principal Investigator of BIT-ACT (2019–2024, ERC StG). In both projects she investigates how digital media and technologies are used to counter corruption through activism, civil society, and journalism across different countries. Among her recent publications: The Handbook of Progressive Politics (2025, Edward Elgar), Activists in the Data Stream (2024, Bristol University Press), and Digital Media and Grassroots Anti-Corruption: Contexts, Platforms and Data of Anti-Corruption Technologies Worldwide (2024, Edward Elgar). Alice is Coordinating Editor of Social Movement Studies, Editor of Partecipazione e Conflitto, and serves on the Editorial Board of Social Media + Society, Social Science Computer Review, and the Journal of Contemporary Sociology. In 2018, she co-founded the book series Media and Communication Activism (Routledge), which she continues to co-direct. At the University of Bologna, she chairs the Research Ethic Committee and is Deputy Director of the CONNECT research centre, which focuses on transnational connections and global governance. She sits on the board of the Alma Mater Research Institute for Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence.
