Dr Aakansha Natani has a PhD in International Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Presently, she is working as an Assistant Professor in Political Science at Human Sciences Research Centre, IIIT Hyderabad, India where she conducts a course on ‘Internet and Democracy’ for undergraduate Engineering students. She is also developing a new course on ‘AI and Human Rights’ for Spring semester 2024. Her work is focussed on developing a democratic perspective on the technical use of ICT for governance, public deliberations and decision-making processes. She is also interested in examining tech-policy initiatives in different countries of the world and suggesting certain policy recommendations that suit the Indian scenario. She has recently joined Centre for South Asian Studies, Department of Politics and International Studies, University of Cambridge as D C Pavate Visiting Fellow 2023 in Sidney Sussex College to work on her research project on “Who Owns Data? Emerging Debates on Data Ownership, Distribution and Protection in Digital Democracies.”
