Wambui Wamunyu is a media educator, researcher and former journalist whose doctoral work interrogated the use of digital technologies in journalism practice. She has published for scholarly and general readership in the areas of disinformation, digital technology use in journalistic practice, methodological approaches in media studies, and Internet governance. Her other contributions include commentaries on press freedom and political news coverage in print and broadcast news outlets. She has been featured on the British Broadcasting Corporation, the Nation Media Group and the South African Broadcasting Corporation among other outlets. As a research consultant, she has studied online gender-based violence, and the news media coverage of Kenya's 2022 general election. Through her membership in the Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet), Wambui has co-written reports relating to Internet governance and advocated for safe, equitable Internet access.Wambui is also experienced in virtual and face-to-face teaching, university administration, and curriculum development. She co-authored a book commemorating the centennial anniversary of a Kenyan sports institution, has undertaken writing and editing consultancies, and served as a panel moderator and discussant in diverse fora. She is a member of the Kenya Editors Guild, a news media industry association which promotes media freedom.
