University of Ljubljana

Tanja Kerševan (Slovenia) is a Research Fellow at the Social Communication Research Center (CDK) and Assistant Professor at the Department of Journalism of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FDV), both at the University of Ljubljana, and a Visiting Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence (2024-2025). As a former media regulator working for the national regulatory authority AKOS (until 2016) and State Secretary responsible for culture, media, and film (2019-2020), her key research interests focus on factors guiding the platform regulation in the globalised digital communication environment, its parallels to normative models of legacy media regulation, democratic legitimacy and implications for the public sphere. She has collaborated with the Council of Europe, the European Audiovisual Observatory, UNESCO, OSCE, OSF, and EU funds and instruments. She served two mandates at the CoE CDMSI committees: in 2016-2017 as a Member of the Committee of Experts on Internet Intermediaries (MSI-NET) and in 2018-2019 as a Member of the Committee of Experts on Artificial Intelligence (MSI-AUT). She holds a PhD in communication science from the University of Ljubljana (2014).
