Dr. Shaheen Kanthawala is an assistant professor in the Journalism & Creative Mediadepartment within the College of Communication & Information Sciences at the University ofAlabama. She has a Ph.D. in Media & Information Studies, an M.A. in Health & RiskCommunication, and an M.A. in Journalism from Michigan State University. Her research lies atthe intersection of media technology, information, and communication with a special focus onhealth technologies, and social media. She has extensive experience focusing on user andpreferences and behaviors and employs a wide variety of methodological approaches includingbut not limited to interviews and content analyses. Her work has been published in top-tierjournals including New Media & Society, Mobile Media & Communication, Journal of MedicalInternet Research, and Social Media + Society.
