Dr. Piotr Sapiezynski is an Associate Research Scientist at the Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute at Northeastern University. His focuses on fair and socially responsible data science and AI. He audits machine learning models of online platforms to identify potential harms, both individual and societal: privacy leaks, echo chambers, exposure to harmful content, and reinforcement of racist, sexist, and otherwise discriminatory societal structures. Dr. Sapiezynski advises journalists, as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations on design, implementation, and evaluation of AI audits. In addition to press coverage and a number of research awards, his audits have yielded tangible effects, from financial penalties to legislative change. Dr. Sapiezynski�s work is funded by the National Science Foundation.
