Nelson Ribeiro is Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Lisbon. Member of the Board of Directors at the Research Centre for Communication and Culture, his main research interests are media and propaganda history, international broadcasting and media and colonialism. Between 2018 and 2022 he was the Principal Investigator of the project "Broadcasting to the Portuguese Empire: Nationalism, Propaganda, Identity" funded by the European Union and the Portuguese science funding agency. Between 2018 and 2021 he was the coordinator of the Portuguese team of "Compact: Social Media and Convergence", funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020. Dr. Ribeiro is the Chair of the History Section at the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR). His most recent publications include: The Wireless World: Global Histories of International Radio Broadcasting (Oxford University Press, 2022), co-authored with Simon J. Potter et al. " and Media and the Dissemination of Fear: Pandemics, Wars and Political Intimidation (Palgrave, 2022), co-edited with Christian Schwarzenegger. Presently he is a Fellow at the Hoover Institution at the University of Stanford where he is researching broadcast propaganda during the Cold War.
