Giovanni Luca Ciampaglia is an assistant professor at the College of Information at the University of Maryland, College Park. He holds a Laurea degree in Computer Science from the �Sapienza� University of Rome and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Lugano. He was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Complex Networks and Research at Indiana University Bloomington, a research scientist at the IU Network Science Institute, an analyst at the Wikimedia Foundation, and a research associate at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. He is the recipient of a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation, and has been the recipient of a postdoctoral fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation. His research interests span multiple disciplines including the science of networks, data science, and social computing. He is interested in problems originating from the collective interplay between people and computing systems, such as information propagation on social media, knowledge production in online communities, and trustworthiness in cyberspace. His work has been covered in major news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, Wired, MIT Technology Review, NPR, and CBS News. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Computational Social Science.
