Dr. Cheryll Soriano is Professor in the Department of Communication, De La Salle University Manila. Her research examines the implications of digital communication on social, cultural, and political processes in the global South. She has made scholarly interventions in the areas of misinformation and alternative influence networks, digital media engagement of social justice movements, and platform labor. She plays an active role in global, regional, and national research networks on digital media and platformization research, including Fairwork (where she is Principal Investigator for Fairwork Philippines), an eight-country Australian Research Council-funded research, Platform Ecosystems and Transactional Cultures in Asia (where she is a co-Investigator), and the multi-disciplinary research, Future Citizen Partnership Initiative. She sits in the Editorial Boards of key journals in communication and media studies. Her books include Philippine Digital Cultures: Brokerage Dynamics on YouTube (Amsterdam University Press, 2022) and Asian Perspectives on Digital Culture: Emerging Phenomena, Enduring Concepts (Routledge, 2018). Professor Soriano has held Visiting Fellowships at the LASALLE College of the Arts (Singapore), RMIT University (Australia), and Peking University (China).
