IPIE Submission to the OECD: Draft Recommendation on Information Integrity

This submission by the International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE), made in November 2024, sets out recommendations for the OECD’s Draft Recommendation on Information Integrity, and is the IPIE’s response to the OECD’s public consultation.

The IPIE’s recommendations encourage:

• More scientific research by online platforms;
• Increased access to platform data for researcher use;
• More transparency about algorithm systems, content moderation procedures, and enforcement actions;
• Innovative models to fund independent media and the promotion of scientific methods to validate research on online platforms;
• Applying actions that prevent the spread of disinformation to more than just malicious actors, deceptive actions, or large platforms;
• Enforcement actions against bots and inauthentic accounts found to be spreading disinformation;
• More stringent industry standards that encourage traceable marks on AI-generated content.
